Come one, come all to celebrate the grand opening of the Silver Rails Gallery of railroad art in La Plata, Missouri! On Saturday, March 13, 2010, artists and railroad enthusiasts will gather to unveil one of the most unique subject-matter-specific art galleries in America, focusing exclusively on artistic interpretations of railroading past, present, and future through a variety of media. All sales of art through Silver Rails Gallery will benefit the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to establishing, expanding, and maintaining an educational exhibition in La Plata featuring the history of passenger rail in America.
Bring your family and friends, and make new friends! Huddle for an interpretive chat about railroading and art from famed artist J. Craig Thorpe, our very first Featured Artist at Silver Rails Gallery. Join in the live webcast of Internet radio talk show Let's Talk Trains with host Nathan Chidester. Enjoy free pourings of local Missouri wine courtesy of West Winery and its Loco Vino: The Railroad Winery line.
The following artists will be on hand to discuss their works on display (program subject to change):
- J. Craig Thorpe: Conceptual and scenic railroad paintings
- Jackie Hadnot: Wooden Ironhorses - Railroad wood carvings
- Carl Morrison: Railroad Photography
- Bob Cox, Silver Rails Gallery Curator: Railroad Photography
