Broken Rail Blamed For Train Derailment (KCRG-TV9 Cedar Rapids)

JEFFERSON, Iowa (AP) — Union Pacific says a broken rail caused 30 cars loaded with coal to derail near Jefferson in west central Iowa. Spokesman Mark Davis says Tuesday that the railroad doesn't know why the rail was broken, and it will be tested to determine what happened.
